Upcoming Transition – You Need a G1 Account!

This is an exciting time for Fallen Earth. Things are Changing! Notice the capital C, and the deployment of glorious italics.

August 1st will mark the conclusion of Phase One of the transition process, which was basically “move over all the hardware and pretty much keep running things the same as they’ve always been.” It also heralds the beginning of Phase Two, where we fully integrate Fallen Earth into the GamersFirst publishing platform.

This mostly means we’re making a lot of back-end changes, and I’m sure it sounds rather vague, so here is a breakdown of the actual changes that affect you!

On August 1st:

  • You will need a GamersFirst account to log in to Fallen Earth (which is no big deal, because we give them away for free so you should make one now)
  • You will need to merge your Fallen Earth account with your G1 account Voltron-style to keep all your characters, reward points, and account history intact. This process will be available on August 1st. To active subscribers who complete this process by August 5th, we'll be handing out some free G1 Credits as our way of saying thank you for undertaking the transition! Which will be useful because...
  • The Fallen Earth website is getting an eXtreme makeover! The Fallen Earth Store will now be integrated with the GamersFirst marketplace. From this point on you'll be able to use G1 Credits to purchase Fallen Earth Store items.

Some payments and subscriptions will be affected. Read on if you pay PayPal or Click&Buy.

If, as of August 1st, your subscription is paid directly with a credit card it will automatically recur without your having to do anything. If your subscription is paid with PayPal or Click&Buy, however, your subscription will not recur in August and you will need to resubscribe. This is not optimal, and we’re sorry :(. We would prefer to allow accounts paid via PayPal and Click&Buy to continue recurring, but certain things prevent us from doing so and we must make lemons of this lemonade. Note that characters and items will of course not be affected if your subscription lapses, but any reward points you’re currently accruing for having a continuous subscription will revert to the default 10 if there is a gap. To prevent any gap in service, please make sure to resubscribe immediately following August 1st (more reminders will of course be sent out closer to this date).

Additional changes that generally don’t affect current subscribers but will also be in place as of August 1st:

  • New subscriptions will continue to come with one additional “Buddy” product key, but will no longer come with an ATV or Classy Feathered Top Hat (we feel that the new player experience of building your first ATV is valuable, and don't want the initial purchase to bypass that)
  • The base price for upgrading from a trial will be reduced from $19.99 to $14.99

In summary, on August 1st before you log in to the game you will be prompted to merge your Fallen Earth account with a GamersFirst account. Once you’ve completed the merge, from then on you will log in to Fallen Earth with your GamersFirst account. If you have a credit card subscription from then on you’re good to go; if you use PayPal or Click&Buy, you’ll need to resubscribe. Accounts that complete this transition by August 5th will receive some "thank-you" G1 Credits. New upgrades will only need to pay $14.99, and will receive a Buddy key, but no hat or ATV. The full Free2Play transition is currently still underway, and we’re making good time.

A couple points not addressed in this blog are the Subscriber Appreciation Gifts (what subscribers will get each month leading up to the Free2Play transition), the forthcoming Veteran Reward (what you will get if you have ever purchased a copy of, or upgraded, Fallen Earth), and the upcoming gameplay changes. These will be addressed in the next few blogs!

As always, thanks for reading, and remember to post a comment if you have questions!

  1. I used Paypal and its valid until Oct 2011. I take it there will be a way to get credit?

  2. and what about clickandbuy? will that be affected?

  3. GamersFirst is requiring a dl of GamersFirst Live. Are we required to dl that to continue to play?

  4. afaik g1 live is not really required, its just a download manager to get easy access to all g1 games. but all games can be downloaded and installed directly from the website as well.

  5. I have not subbed since using the Game Time Codes. I am currently paid up until november 2011. How will I be affected and am I still classed as a "subscriber" when considering any loyalty rewards given to veteren players once the transition goes live?

  6. Since I already have a g1 account we just have to wait for Aug 1...can't do it early I take it?

  7. @Wandering The account will still be active and valid through October -- it just won't auto-recur in November. Sometime between August 1st and when your account is scheduled to be billed again, you'll want to re-setup your billing info.

@Dunkare Click&Buy also is affected, and I have edited the post to reflect that

@Unknown You won't need to download G1 Live; it's for downloading games, and if you have the game, you don't need it :)

@Mallas Yes, you count as a subscriber

@Aika Can't do it early; we sample a few different processes, and the one we've decided on ends up being easy and painless. When you go to login on August 1st, you'll just take a couple seconds to merge the accounts.

  8. Going to repeat my question since it didn't get answered last time around:

"It's nice that you're going to reward the players who are active NOW, but what about the players who are subscribing AND have been with the game since Closed Beta? *jumps up and down*"

  9. Quick question

I know its a bit off topic but anyway, i bought a copy of fallen earth but the key has never been used, what good is it worth?

  10. Never mind, i re-read the post

  11. Wait so what about people who have an account thats not active? Do we get to transfer over?

    ReplyDelete
  12. How do you merge the accounts?

    ReplyDelete
  13. @Out of Reign That will be covered in the Veteran Reward upcoming blog I mentioned :)

@c42745d4-b3f0-11e0-aa8b-000bcdcb5194 (sweet name) All accounts can transfer, but it will need to be active in order to log in to the game

@Antros The first time you log in after August 1st, you will be directed through the short merge process.

  16. Is it just me or is anyone else slightly intrigued as to why my automatic credit card billing will continue once the game becomes free 2 play?

    ReplyDelete
  17. @Asasht Whenever you go to log into your old account after August 1st, you will undergo the merge process regardless of whether or not that account currently has an active subscription. You will need to be subscribed to play that account after you have merged it, however.

@Sefski August 1st is not the change to Free2Play, just the transition to using GamersFirst accounts to log into the game. It will still require a subscription to play.

  18. G1 is hell. I played old APB and then G1 APB.
And guess what? yes whole game is free but in item shop are overpowered weapons. Weapons for 10$ which give you 10x more damage that same weapon in game. And many luxury items like cars and high level stuff that you can buy day one, so players are demotivated, because there isnt anything "rare" for them. And of course it totally destroyed PvP.

  20. Didn't mean to delete my post. So anyways after I spent $50 to buy the game right after beta and subscribed for 5 months which totals around $125 (since im no longer subscribed) I need to spend another $15 just to get any benefits subscribers get when the game goes F2P? If true then that is one BIG ripoff.

    ReplyDelete
  21. @ComradeCommissar Let me get this straight... You canceled your account 5 months after game came out while others have paid the whole time and you expect special treatment? So what if they gave you special items? You'd quit again as soon as it goes F2P. Cheapskates like you are the reason this G1 merger even happened. $15 a month isn't much to those who actually enjoy the game and want to see it grow but people like you expect to see the game change without supporting the developers or anyone else involved and that's why games end up going F2P. If people want to complain about things changing you only have to look as far as those people asking for free handouts.

  22. @SirCorona Oh boy do I laugh every time I hear "What are you poor $15 dollars is nothing mommy and daddy helps me pay "or "I have a great paying job I have so much money!" $15 can go a long way every month for me being 17 working minimum wage helping my dad pay rent (taking almost ALL my paycheck}, gas, and paying for food. I'm not asking for special Items, people that payed for the game should at least get the highest premium when it goes F2P even if they only played and payed for even one month.I didn't unsubscribed because I was being a cheapskate (I don't understand how you can call me that even though I spent $125 on this game which is A LOT but not all people have lots of money such as yourself) I enjoyed the game a lot during my 5 months but simply unsubscribed to save some money. All players that payed for the game should get a premium F2P account but sadly people like you expect everyone has loads of money and can fork out even more money when they already payed for it.

  23. You state in this Blog that

Phase One “move over all the hardware and pretty much keep running things the same as they’ve always been.”

    1st August you start...

Phase Two, where we fully integrate Fallen Earth into the GamersFirst publishing platform.

Where was Phase 1.5, Release broken Combat System and a barely Beta ready new Sector?

Also what happens if Phase One extends beyond 1st August? If there an actual signoff on Phase One that is required before you launch Phase Two?
Reason I ask this is that "pretty much keep running things the same as they’ve always been.” has not been achieved to date has it? The performance issues with the Server, crashes, lag, spikes, downtime etc seem to be getting worse not better...seven days seems a very short timeframe to resolve all this given progress to date.

    ReplyDelete
  24. @ComradeCommissar I'm just saying in cases like yours particularly, you shouldn't deserve any special treatment just because you bought the game when it came out and bought a 6 month subscription or whatever and haven't subscribed since for whatever reason. There are many others who pay all their own bills and raise children who still found a way to squeak out $15 a month since the game released and those people above all should should be the ones receiving any uber special benefits and those that are subscribers regardless should be the ones getting the other benefits they speak of. Those who have accounts that are not active but can be reactivated should receive a much smaller benefit of some sort. But honestly those who continue to help pay the bills for the dev's and for this game should be the only ones receiving anything at this time. Perhaps if its too pricy for you they may give the earlier adopter's of the F2P model a prize of some sort. But seriously $15/month nowadays could easily be had just picking up pennies walking around town a couple days a week. Collect cans and turn them in for cash. If you love the game so much and want the benefits then find a way to pay like the rest of us.

  25. That being said, I am very happy to see progress of any type going on and love these Dev blogs. I just wish others had the patience I do so I stop having to weed through all the complaining/whining/ragequitting/canceling anytime I peruse the forums to look for any new info.

  26. I was wondering, but do previous subscribers who bought the game over Steam have any option to play the game when it goes F2P? And I've noticed there isn't any recent updated news on the Steam page of FE. Does this mean FE has been taken down on Steam? And also, we must pay on the 1st August just to reactivate our accounts to enter the F2P? If so, seems abit harsh..

  27. I'll be away the week of July 30 to August 6th. Is there any way I can do my account early? I already have a G1 acct.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I do need to clarify something:

August First is NOT the change to Free2Play. The game is still subscription based, and will be subscription based until Fall. The changeover on August 1st makes it so you can log into the game using a GamersFirst account, and in some cases this requires an update if you pay with PayPal or Click&Buy, in order to stay subscribed. We wish it didn't require an update, but there isn't really a way around that.

@JimmyQ Part of the reasons for the instability means that we have been, from a technical standpoint, running things the way they have always been run. As we complete the transition things will be more customized for the new environment in which Fallen Earth lives, and thus more stable.

@ComradeCommissar You don't need to subscribe during this time if you don't want to; these gifts are our way of saying thank you to those who DO subscribe while we transition. Persons such as yourself who originally bought the game will get a different--and very cool--gift independent of the subscriber appreciation gifts.

@SomeoneSomewhere Regardless of how you acquired Fallen Earth, you will of course be able to play the game when it goes Free2Play. I'm not positive where the Steam news page for each game pulls from.

@Dave When the process is available on August 1st we'll also provide a link on where you can perform the merge without having to log in to the game. Also, you will be able to perform the merge (and update your PayPal info if necessary) any time after August 1st, so you can do it when you get back.

  29. What happens in the fall? You have not mentioned anything about what happens after this August. I am curious as to what is going to happen then.

  30. I haven't played FE for years and would love to retreive my account and merge it with the new G1 system. Problem is, I don't remember my login information, who should I contact or is this even possible ? Did my account get wiped/etc? Thanks in advance. Xillix

  31. I'm having the same problem as Xillix. Would like to recover my account if at all possible. Please help.
